The current Nationwide Employer Survey 2023/24, involving 162 companies, reveals key trends in recruitment, remuneration, and benefits.
Recruitment forecast: Optimism wins over stagnation
Although 2023 brought many economic challenges, as many as 42% of companies were able to actively increase their number of employees.. Positive news also comes when looking at the near future. Almost half of the surveyed employers, 48%, plan to continue growing and hiring new people in the second half of 2024.
A total of 46% of companies are maintaining stability and plan to keep their current headcount. Only a minimal share, specifically 6% of companies, are considering layoffs.. These figures indicate expected economic development and a continuing demand for new talent.
The fight for talent and salary increases
Finding the right people, however, is not easy. As many as 63% of companies admit that filling certain positions is challenging for them. Another 24% of companies are even struggling with problematic recruitment and are unable to meet their planned capacities.
This pressure directly affects salary policy:

Across-the-board increases: In 2023, as many as 87% of employers increased salaries.

Rate of increase: The largest share of companies, 43%, increased employees’ salaries by between 6% and 10%.

Performance motivation: Employers are increasingly using financial bonuses for individual performance, 62%, and company results, 49%.
Return to offices: The end of the home office era?
The data confirms a new trend — a gradual decline in working from home. As many as 53% of employees spend less than 20% of their time working from home, which represents approximately one day per week. Compared with last year, the number of people working from home three or more days a week decreased significantly by 14%. The labour market is therefore visibly returning to in-person cooperation in offices.
