Payroll processing today is not just about numbers and deadlines. It is a complex process that requires a high level of accuracy, knowledge of legislation, the ability to respond to changes, and well-established internal processes. This is exactly the principle on which the payroll department at Talent Solutions operates under the leadership of Katarína Cigáňová.
As Payroll Manager, she ensures that payroll services operate reliably, flawlessly, and on time – for internal and temporarily assigned employees, clients, and the company itself.
Katarína has been working at Talent Solutions since 2018 and leads a payroll department of four colleagues. Her work combines expert knowledge of payroll administration, team leadership, and thorough process control, which is directly reflected in the quality of outputs, the satisfaction of employees and clients, and the overall stability of the company’s operations.
From her position, she holds full responsibility for the complete payroll processing of internal and temporarily assigned employees, as well as client payrolls. She is responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of the entire payroll agenda with current legislation, while also leading the team and coordinating its day-to-day work. The main goal of her position is to ensure error-free payroll processing, employee and client satisfaction, and the efficient functioning of payroll processes.
Every detail matters
Her working day usually depends on the phase of the payroll period. At the beginning of the month, she and her team focus mainly on checking documents, communicating with colleagues and clients, and processing payroll itself. They then gradually move on to checking outputs, resolving any discrepancies, and ensuring that all outputs are sent on time.
In addition, she is involved in leading the team on a daily basis – assigning tasks, helping colleagues with more complex cases, and dealing with operational questions. Her work also includes communication with authorities and monitoring legislative changes to ensure that everything works correctly. Every day is slightly different, but the foundation remains organization, control, and teamwork.
Current priorities and challenges in practice
Katarína’s biggest priority at the moment is processing annual tax settlements, as this is one of the more demanding periods where accuracy and meeting deadlines are key. At the same time, she is also dealing with inspections from the Labour Inspectorate, so she focuses on ensuring that documentation and processes are in order and compliant with legislation.
In addition, she supports the team, handles operational questions, and continuously monitors the agenda to make sure everything runs smoothly. The ability to manage several topics at once, maintain an overview, and set the right priorities is one of the biggest challenges of this role.
The responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of payroll is also demanding, because even a small error can have an impact on employees or clients. That is why good organization, a clear division of tasks, open communication within the team, and continuous learning are an important part of the work, helping the team respond correctly to frequent legislative changes.
A role with a direct impact on the company’s operations
The work of a Payroll Manager at Talent Solutions has a direct impact on the satisfaction of both employees and clients. Payroll is an extremely sensitive topic, and when everything is processed correctly and on time, employees have trust in the company and clients can rely on the services delivered.
At the same time, by ensuring that processes are set up correctly and in compliance with legislation, the payroll department contributes to the smooth functioning of the company and the minimization of risks, for example during inspections. This role therefore has an impact not only on day-to-day operations, but also on the overall stability and reputation of the company.
Collaboration across departments
Katarína most often works with the HR department, the accounting department, and clients. With HR, she mainly deals with onboarding, offboarding, changes to employment relationships, and various payroll documents. With the accounting department, she cooperates on linking payroll to accounting and processing payments to employees’ accounts.
An important part of her work is also daily communication with clients, where she handles their requests, questions, and specific situations. In practice, this mainly involves regular communication, the exchange of documents, and jointly looking for solutions to ensure that everything runs smoothly and without errors.
What is not visible is often the most important
According to Katarína, people often do not realize how complex and responsible the payroll agenda is. Most people only see the result – the salary in their account – but they do not see all the work, the number of checks, legislative rules, and details that need to be monitored continuously.
At the same time, she points out that every situation can be individual and that there is not always one universal solution. Payroll administration is therefore not only about numbers, but also about the ability to find the right solution and continuously adapt to changes.
Expertise, accuracy, and a stable team
According to her, success in this position requires above all precision, responsibility, good work organization, and the ability to prioritize. Communication is also very important – with the team, clients, and other departments – as well as the ability to handle situations with perspective. Knowledge of legislation and a willingness to continuously learn are essential, as the rules change frequently.
She is most proud of the fact that her team has long been able to manage the payroll agenda reliably and without major errors, despite its complexity and frequent legislative changes. At the same time, she values having managed to maintain a stable and well-functioning team that cooperates and can handle even more demanding periods.
When things add up, they make sense
What she enjoys most about her work is working with numbers and the overall logic of payroll administration. She enjoys it when things add up, make sense, and everything is processed correctly down to the last detail. She also finds fulfilment in successfully managing a demanding period without errors and ensuring that everything works as it should.
And what might many people not know about her? She likes order not only in numbers, but also in everyday life – when something does not add up, she simply cannot let it go. And with a smile, she admits that she can fall asleep practically anywhere. She even managed to do so while skiing, specifically on a ski lift 🙂
